Hi, I’m Sean Openshaw, and I’ve spent the last 35+ years chasing light, moments, and meaning—with a camera in my hand and a story unfolding in front of me.

I built this site to talk about the how behind my work. If SeanOpenshaw.com shows you what a moment looks like, this is where I talk about what it took to get there: the decisions, the preparation, the gear, the instinct, the patience—and sometimes, the lucky break.

My Path as a Photographer

I started as a photojournalist—chasing deadlines and decisive moments for newspapers. Back then, my camera was my passport into people’s lives. I learned quickly that the most meaningful photographs come from building trust, paying attention, and knowing what not to include in the frame.

Over the years, my identity as a photographer has evolved. I’ve worked in healthcare storytelling, sports photography, and family portraiture. I’ve photographed athletes, surgeons, ranchers, and newborns. What ties it all together? A relentless pursuit of authenticity—capturing not just what a moment looked like, but what it felt like to be there, and more importantly, what it meant.
